I live in a mid-century ranch that has a unique HVAC configuration. I heat is provided by a Boiler that heats water and circulates it through the house. Works wonderfully during our cold Wisconsin winters. Cooling is provided by a typical split system using a condenser, coil and air handler. I have dealt with Ron Hammes for twenty plus years because they have well-seasoned HVAC technicians that understand various environments. After a summer where we had 4+ days over 100 degrees and many in the 90+ range, I decided to have Ron Hammes Refrigeration do an assessment. My Trane XL1200 that was installed in 1990 was still working fine. The issue was it used R22 refrigerant which is no longer available. With hotter summers ahead being predicted I wanted to avoid a mid-summer surprise. The Air Handler was a single speed from 1988. The recommendation was a more than piecemeal upgrade, it was a complete system solution. Replace the A/C with a high efficiency Trane XL 16i, Trane Variable Speed TAM9 Air Handler and an APRILAIRE 600 Humidifier and a Honeywell T10 Smart Thermostat. It took 1 day to remove the old equipment and install and test all the new equipment. Following that we had a couple weeks of warm weather to exercise the A/C and during Q4 the new Humidifier and Air Handler worked perfectly. The only issue was how the Honeywell T10 controlled the boiler. After contacting James Hammes we made some adjustments to the settings, and everything works fine. Ron Hammes earned 5 stars because of their HVAC knowledge, years of service coupled with skilled technicians capable of working through challenges posed by 65 year old installations. It is always great to work with professionals.
