So far here is what I got. Called Hoffman (on a Monday) for service on my Fridge/Freezer about 3-4 weeks ago. Service tech comes out and says everything is frozen up, let this thaw for a full 24 hours then it could take up to a day to come to temp. Thaws out the next day(Tuesday). Before I did anything with the fridge I made sure it was bone dry. Then I felt comfortable turning it back on and letting it come to temp. We let it come down to temp overnight and begin stocking the next morning ( Wednesday). As the day went on I noticed the temp going up again and the coils in the freezer were frozen up again. So I called back and said someone was out on Monday but I don't think we nailed the problem. The technician looks at frosted coils and says if I open that up I'm charging you another service charge, probably just to tell you to defrost it again. Basically his stance was that even though we gave it 48 hours that wasn't enough, even though he said it would be 24. He said I didn't let it thaw out all the way. So I called customer service which spoke to a manager and wouldn't connect me directly at first. Well they basically tried to give me the same speech the tech gave me. And I said that's fine if you want to throw down the gauntlet I'll pay a second service charge, but if it's related to the first call after all you all can pitch in for labor for the terrible service. Finally they connected me to a manager. He admitted they might have made the wrong diagnosis after I talked to him and sent him pictures. He said he would follow up with me the following Friday to check on the fridge. Well that was two weeks ago.. no word. Called customer service Friday morning 8am. They said a manager will be contacting me 24-48 hours...still nothing. I will update this if they decide to be decent and either take care of my repair or refund me for the initial service call for wasting my time.

Shane did a great job in assessing what the issue was. He was able to handle both our freezer problem as well as an electrical problem. He immediately gave us a quote for the repairs.

Update: I'd lower my review 17 stars if possible. The utter ineptness and complete incompetence of these people is mind boggling. I am, after 6 weeks on google, more knowledgable (and I got to pay $23k for the privilege of a new full time job!) about HVAC systems than every person, combined, in this train wreck of a company, ever will be. *New issues: 1) The new condenser pad they (Hoffman Brothers) installed is not even close to being level. All rain, snow melt, heat pump defrosting water runs right off the back and to the left and sits on the concrete next to the foundation. It's like watching the Zapruder film.... back and to the left, back and to the left, back... and to the left. Was never an issue before and now it is just stall, stall, stall, hoping I go away... it might cost them to fix what they should have done properly to start with. 2) They (Hoffman Brothers) drilled holes in my foundation to install PVC piping. I've had several people out to look at insulation upgrades. Every single one made a point to mention that the installer (Hoffman Brothers) made zero effort (2 minutes and 5 dollars) to at least seal up the holes with spray foam. 3) They (Hoffman Brothers) set up my (half way functional & very expensive) thermostat to use "furnace" staging for gas heat. The installer was getting his (because no one at this company has the first clue what they are selling or how to support it) guidance from someone over the phone when setting it up. Per the owner's manual (that they did not bother to leave) "system" staging is the default setting and the setting to be used to "provide full modulation". The way they set it up negated the entire point of paying thousands more for a fully modulating furnace. 4) They (Hoffman Brothers) set up the thermostat to run the heat pump at any and all temperatures. There is a point where a heat pump is less efficient than the gas furnace. Not that you would know it from them. Nary a word was said about it or the "coefficient of performance". They actually have no idea, until they perhaps just now google it, what that even means. I've determined from my that is about 30 degrees. I'd rather it not defrost (for reasons mentioned above) so I set it at 40. But, good grief, had I allowed the heat pump to run to negative 10 degrees ---- I'd have been paying many multiples over my previous gas usage. 5) Man, this is getting old. But Hoffman Brothers is the gift that doesn't stop giving. The salesman literlly wrote in the brochure that every upgrade in SEER level was a 4-5% savings. Going from a 13 to an "up to" 20 SEER2 would be : "70% Ameren Bill". (my local electric provider) Sure, every salesman is a liar, I took that with a grain of salt. But, should be kinda close right? Dummy that I am I upsold him to an "up to 24 SEER2" heat pump. (which isn't even what the manufacturer says) Lo and behold, they install it, kinda late now right?, give you the tax credit paperwork that you won't look at for 3 months - huh... it's 18.5 SEER2! Not close to 20, not close to 22 and certainly not close to 24! So right then and there you've been robbed of 25% of you electricity bill until the end of time.
